I am so excited to introduce my next Lioness Arising Mother
About a year ago, I found a website called “Regarding Caroline”. I will never forget it. We were driving on a long road trip and I had a lot of time to sit and read through the website. Then I got to the recovery video. Caroline’s beautiful recovery video. I sat there crying, my husband asking what was wrong, and I remember telling him: “I love these stories of recovery. These moms are so amazing to me. If I had the opportunity to meet a celebrity or a mom like Caroline’s mom, I would choose these mommas every time”.
A year later, our paths crossed and I am proud to say that today, Caroline’s mom, Rebecca Ferguson is my friend. This momma is incredible. Her dedication to recover and heal her daughter is remarkable and wonderful and beautiful.
Rebecca Ferguson, who had previously conquered the corporate world and traveled the ends of the earth seeking meaning in her life, finally found it right at home: recovering a child from autism. Rebecca authors the website Regarding Caroline. When she isn’t blogging or researching, she’s helping other parents in the community heal their children. The message that there’s always hope is a pervasive theme in her articles.
Caroline’s (brief) story: (told through her mothers words)
“Caroline was born a happy, healthy, playful baby…until 6 months of age when she received the DTaP, IPV/OPV, Hep B, PCV7, and a Flu shot all at her 6 month well child visit. After that, she began exhibiting a shaking behavior any time her excitement or sensations became more than she could process. Other than that, she was still fairly typical. She began to babble and was developing a few words… Ma-ma, Da-dad, the words that touch a parent’s hart. However, after 12 months of age (and the MMR), she lost them and did not gain any others.
After months of Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy (with little progress), Caroline was becoming completely intolerant of transitions, defensive of many textures (including most foods) and her social anxiety was debilitating. We knew we needed to look beyond therapy”.
Caroline’s journey since then has been nothing short of mind-blowing diagnoses, treatments, & therapies. All which eventually led to healing and recovery. At 33 months, Caroline’s Biomedical journey began.
If you are not familiar with Biomedical treatments, I highly recommend educating yourself. The Regarding Caroline website details the Biomedical journey in one of the most thorough and extensive ways I’ve seen. It is simply remarkable. If you are unaware of the following terms, tests, & treatments, this should be a mandatory learning list for parents.
Vaccine injury is very real. So is recovery and healing.
DMG (Dimethylglycine), GFCF Diet, Digestive Enzymes (DPP-IV), Methyl b-12 injections, Cod Liver Oil, Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD/GAPS), Antifungals, Antivirals, Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) cream, mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (mHBOT), Urine Porphyrins Test, Low dose chelation with Transdermal DMPS, Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA), Homeopathy, Belladona, Adrenal Cortext Extract, Phosphatidyl Serine, Camels Milk.
I list all these things, simply because there is an entire other world out there, that doesn’t involve drugs, medications, & prescriptions. It saddens me when I see a child diagnosed with an illness and the parents are told their only option is to mask the symptoms with drugs, in hopes of alleviating some of the suffering…with never any hope of actually healing the child.
Rebecca learned, during Caroline’s autism diagnosis, that Caroline’s body could not overcome the viruses from the vaccines, as her body was still fighting them. They were causing inflammation in her brain and gut, which was wreaking havoc and leading to many of her issues. Through many tests, Rebecca learned that the elevated levels of mercury and several other metals were also the cause of many issues. And then the PANDAS diagnosis:
“What we know about Caroline’s immune system was confirmed again. Because of her autoimmune problems, the vaccines she received at 6 months of age, caused her body to make inappropriate antibodies, which attacked her brain, likely causing inflammation and injuring the basal ganglia nuclei in the center of her brain.
The basal ganglia contain neurons that receive and modify information from the cerebral cortex. They’re associated with a variety of functions, including voluntary motor control, procedural learning, behaviors, and cognitive and emotional functions.
When her basal ganglia were injured after the 6 month vaccines, she developed a movement disorder (she shakes uncontrollably anytime her sensory system is overstimulated). Then, when she received her 12 month vaccines (after the pediatrician assured us there could be no relations), her brain was again injured, resulting in her losing all her language and developing significant behavioral, emotional, and sensory issues.
Caroline was suffering from inflammation of the brain. Caroline’s case is NOT rare, not even uncommon. Vaccine induced encephalopathy (brain swelling) is the unpublicized cause of many childhood neurological disorders (Autism, ADHD, Behavioral problems, Brain tumors, Metabolic disorders, Learning disorders, Mitochondrial disorders, etc..)”
Caroline was suffering from:
Medical Issues (in brain and gut), Leaky & Inflamed Gut, Autism, Sensory and Language Issues, Sensory Processing Disorder, Verbal Apraxia, Hyperlexia, OCD behaviors, Social Anxiety, Tantrums during transitions, Lack of focus, Teeth Grinding, Night waking (5 hours at a time), Drunken laughing, Systematic Yeast Problems, PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infection), which includes: ADHD symptoms (hyperactivity, inattention, fidgety), Separation anxiety, Sydenham’s Chorea and/or Choreiform (involuntary) movements, Mood changes (irritability, sadness, emotional liability), Sleep disturbance (insomnia), separation anxiety at bedtime, Urinary urgency or frequency/enuresis, Marked deterioration in handwriting and/or math skills, Tactile/Sensory Defensiveness, & Age Regressive Behaviors
I list all of these things, simply because I cannot imagine the life of a mother who lives day after day with her precious child suffering. It is astounding to me, that during the depths of this suffering, Rebecca found the strength to research and become educated, which ultimately lead to the recovery and healing of her daughter, Caroline.
To me, this is a beautiful love story between a mother and her daughter.
Caroline’s medical journey is long and involved and detailed. You can read about her entire journey on the Regarding Caroline website. But most importantly, Caroline’s story is a message of hope. All it takes is one determined, passionate, educated momma who chooses to recover a diagnosis, not just accept it.
“To date, Caroline’s most remarkable gains have come from treating Yeast, Methyl b-12 injections, the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatments, Chelation, Homeopathy, Camels Milk and PANDAS protocol. Of course, therapy is essential and has helped Caroline tremendously, but only in conjunction with Biomedical Treatments. Every time she demonstrates large gains in skills- which are noticed at therapy sessions and/or school, it is precisely at the time we have started a biomedical treatment. When she plateaus with a treatment, no new skills have come until we try the next Biomedical treatment. Fortunately, she’s capable of rising to each new challenge with a smile”
Rebecca just published her 1st ebook. You can read it here. I can’t think of a better way to end this post than with the sweet words of this mother, that sum up perfectly this beautiful love story between a momma and her daughter:
“I had this idea long ago about the kind of mark I wanted to leave in this world. I wanted to build something grand, something that would touch the sky. Instead, I’ve done something much, much harder, and more ambitious. I’m healing a child with autism.
I still watch “It’s a Wonderful Life” every Christmas. It’s interesting to me how I relate to it differently as I live my own life. Before Caroline’s diagnosis, I felt sorry for George, like he settled, like he missed out on his dreams.
But dreams change. Plans change. Life is messy and complicated, and also wonderful. My dreams of leaving a mark on this world have come true.
I’m somebody very important indeed. I’m Caroline’s mom.
A girl who’s recovering from autism”
